What is a VIC?

A Visitor Identification Card (VIC) provides temporary access to secure areas of Adelaide Airport for individuals who do not hold an ASIC but need access for operational purposes.

VICs are commonly used by:

  • Contractors
  • Tradespeople
  • Maintenance personnel
  • Service providers
  • Visitors accessing secure areas
  • Short-term workers

How to Obtain a VIC

VIC Pre-Requests for Groups of 3 or More

If you require VIC passes for three or more people, we recommend submitting a Visitor Identification Card (VIC) Pre-Request Form at least 72 hours before the VIC start date.

If You Submit a VIC Pre-Request

Collect your VICs from either Northern Screening or Southern Screening.
Please ensure each applicant brings the same original identification document(s) submitted with the pre-request form for verification.
The collection process typically takes around 5-10 minutes.

If You Have Fewer Than 3 People 

VIC pre-requests are not available for individuals or groups of fewer than three people. 
Applications will need to be processed on arrival. 
Please allow 20 minutes or more, depending on operational requirements and queue lengths.

For contractors, project teams and retail fit-out crews, submitting a pre-request for eligible groups can help reduce delays and keep works running to schedule.

Do I Need an Induction?

No. A full Adelaide Airport induction is not required to obtain a Visitor Identification Card (VIC).

Before a VIC can be issued, the visitor must receive a Sponsor's Briefing from their Adelaide Airport sponsor. This briefing covers the safety, security and operational requirements relevant to the visitor's activities while on site.

VIC Requirements:

  • Full Airport Induction: Not required for VIC holders.
  • Sponsor's Briefing: Required before a VIC can be issued.
  • Supervision: VIC holders must be supervised by a valid ASIC holder at all times while in security controlled areas.
  • Valid Identification: Visitors must present the required identification documents when collecting their VIC.

The Sponsor's Briefing is the responsibility of the sponsoring business or ASIC holder and must be completed prior to the visitor accessing restricted areas of the airport.

The induction typically takes around 30 minutes to complete.

To obtain a VIC, you must present valid government-issued photo identification, such as:

  • Driver Licence
  • Passport
  • Proof of Age Card
  • Other approved government-issued photo identification

A VIC cannot be issued without valid identification.

Where Can I Collect a VIC?

VICs can be collected from:

  • Northern Screening
  • Southern Screening

Where possible, complete a VIC pre-request before attending to reduce processing times and avoid delays.

Once the visitor no longer requires access to Adelaide Airport, the VIC must be returned to the Pass Issue Office as soon as possible.

Important: Visitors can only hold a VIC for a maximum of 28 days within a 12-month period. This allowance continues to be counted until the VIC is returned.

To avoid using unnecessary VIC days, ensure the pass is returned promptly when it is no longer needed.

If ongoing access is required beyond the VIC allowance, the visitor may need to apply for an ASIC instead.

VIC Requirements

When issued with a VIC, you must:

  • Wear your VIC above waist level at all times and ensure it is clearly visible.
  • Keep your VIC securely attached to your outer clothing.
  • Remain escorted by an ASIC holder whenever required.
  • Follow all directions provided by Airport Security.
  • Only access areas necessary for the purpose of your visit.
  • Return the VIC when it is no longer required.

All VIC holders must be accompanied by an ASIC holder whenever they are accessing or working in secure airport areas.

A simple rule of thumb:
If you wouldn't normally be there as a passenger travelling through the airport, you will generally need to be escorted.

An escort is typically required when:

  • Working in a retail store or outlet
  • Accessing staff-only or back-of-house areas
  • Entering stockrooms
  • Undertaking maintenance, construction or fit-out works
  • Working within secure operational areas

An escort is generally not required when:

  • Purchasing food or beverages
  • Using public amenities
  • Sitting in public seating areas
  • Moving through public passenger areas

If you're unsure whether an escort is required, contact Airport Security or the Pass Issue Office before proceeding.

Visitors may only be issued VICs for a maximum of 28 days within a 12-month period.

Important: The 28-day allowance continues to count unless the VIC is returned to the Pass Issue Office.

For this reason, VICs should be returned as soon as they are no longer required.

If you require access beyond the VIC limits, an ASIC may be required.

Failure to comply with VIC conditions, including escort requirements and displaying your VIC correctly, may result in:

  • Removal from secure areas.
  • Cancellation of the VIC.
  • An infringement notice.
  • Financial penalties.
  • Other enforcement action as required.

Airport security is taken seriously, and all visitors are expected to follow directions provided by Airport Security and ASIC holders.
